Approach to problem-solving
Throughout his career, Roger has often been accused of adopting an 'academic approach', usually by managers with a predeliction for action without (sufficient) thought. Nevertheless he continues to adopt a systematic approach to problem solving, based on the method of analysing problems from 'first principles'. Continual application of this approach, combined with ‘systems thinking’ methods, has refined his ability to extract from complex situations the fundamental issues and driving forces. He is particularly strong in situations where 'problem analysis' is the primary need. Combined with the facility to see situations from a broad perspective, this positions him well to take a strategic view.
